Meet the Community: Amrita G.

Lionbridge's Hindi Language Lead in Allahabad, India

Meet Amrita G., a Hindi Language Lead that has partnered with Lionbridge for more than 10 years. She lives in Allahabad in the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. The city is close to the "three-river confluence" of the Ganges, Yamuna and Sarasvati rivers, which plays a central role in Hindu scriptures. She loves Indian music, literature, dance forms, food, people and rich cultural heritage. She also knows both the Magahi and Bhojpuri languages. Read on to find out more about Amrita.

Describe a day in the life of a Lionbridge partner.

I get my assignment along with clear instructions from the project team, engage in friendly chit-chat and receive praise and recognition for my work.

What advice would you give your younger self if they were just starting out in this field?

Love what you do and don't take anything for granted. If you love what you are doing, you will never compromise with the quality. Honesty and transparency are the keys to success.

Tell us about some of your hobbies and interests.

Reading books, watching plays and movies, writing poetry, cooking, travelling, spending time with kids, attending mushairas and kavi sammelan (gatherings of poets) and concerts, attending exhibitions, writing jingles and watching cartoons.

How many languages do you speak, and do you want to learn a new one?

I speak four: Hindi, Bhojpuri, Magahi and English. I want to learn Urdu, too!

What is your favorite word or phrase in your native language and why is it your favorite?

सबसे ख़तरनाक होता है हमारे सपनों का मर जाना - पाश

Translated, this means: "The most dangerous is the direction where the sun of soul sets, and a ray of dying sunlight pierces the east of your body."

What country would you like to travel to and why?

France, Egypt, Turkey, Australia—the list is long!

What, in your opinion, makes your industry special?

The flexibility to work on our own terms and from wherever we want. You only need a stable internet connection.

What is the coolest language task you’ve participated in?

It's a tie between two. I had the opportunity to localize metadata content for a streaming platform. I also got to write and localize different cartoon shows, which included writing jingles and rhyming dialogues for some of the characters.
