Name: Kartik Pillai
Kartik Pillai

Hometown/Lionbridge Office:
Mumbai, India

Job Title:
Sr. Project Manager.
I lead a group of 85+ amazing Project managers and Project coordinators, who support our Life Science clients around the globe.

How long have you been at Lionbridge?
I have been with Lionbridge since December 3, 2007. It has been 10.7 amazing years, and the journey still continues along…

What does a typical work day look like for you?
I start my day in a late IST shift (5pm to 2am), so I can overlap with both EUR and US time zones. I usually start the day by checking and replying to my emails, which I continue to do periodically as they arrive.
During a typical work week, one of my biggest tasks is checking in on my staff and assessing their progress on various projects. I like to meet first thing on Monday to discuss our priorities for the week, then meet again in the middle of the week to check progress, and finally meet once at the end of the week to discuss goal-setting for the next week. I meet with the team and we come up with a strategy together for increasing our efficiency.
Along with constant interaction with my team, I also attend weekly meetings with other sites with which my team members work. In these meetings, we discuss what went well and what needs to improve, and we troubleshoot any issues. On Fridays, once all these tasks are completed, I make sure I have completed all necessary communication for the week via email and in person, and I create a list of priorities for the next week.

What is your favorite place in your office?
My cubicle, from where I have a complete view of my team!

What is the best part of your job?
My team is the best part of my job, and I’m passionate about my work and leadership.

Fill in the blanks:

I speak 4 languages (list them!)

My favorite local saying is ______, [and it means ______, if not English].
My favorite saying is “मुम्बई मेरी जान,” and it means "Mumbai, My Life."

A tourist visiting my city shouldn’t miss…
Kalavantin Durg.
Kalavantin Durg
In the Western Ghats near Mumbai, at a hefty altitude of 701 meters (2,300 feet) above sea level lie gorgeous views and abundant beauty. The trek to and from the Kalavantin Durg fortress – via rugged terrain with narrow rock-cut steps, steep slopes, and no support whatsoever – is dangerous yet thrilling. Kalavantin Fort is known as the ‘Climb to Heaven,’ due both to its dangerous nature and the bird’s e”ye view of immense beauty that await atop.
Adding recent snaps from our July trip, where the Lionbridge Leadership concurred on Kalavantin heights!

My coworkers would say my weirdest habit is…
Finding out their secrets.

Outside of work, I always make time for…
Gyming (bodybuilding) – I work out 2 hrs. for 5 days a week and follow the slogan “EAT BIG, LIFT BIG, GET BIG! SAY NO TO STEROIDS.

My hidden talent is…

...still hidden. :)

Being the solution makes me roar.
