Travel to our new Yokohama games lab to meet Lionbridge Games' Test Lead, Julien Humbert. Julien manages a team of localization testers, which lets him live out his passion for gaming through his work. When he’s not working, he enjoys creating computer programs and visiting historical sites.

Tell us a little about your role at Lionbridge. What does a typical workday look like?
I am a Test Lead in the new Yokohama lab for our localization quality assurance (LQA) services. Every day, I monitor our testing projects—I guide our game testers and ensure our projects are on schedule. At the end of each day, I provide progress reports to our clients.
What do you enjoy most about your position?
I really enjoy seeing the games’ translations get better and better as we work on them. I’m proud of the work we do and how it helps more players in more countries enjoy a game once it’s finally released.
How does the opening of the Yokohama lab improve our ability to help Lionbridge Games customers?
I think our Japanese gaming customers will appreciate having local testing services available to them—having a testing lab in the same time zone as these customers means we can provide testing results very quickly. This lab is our first testing lab providing LQA services in Japan, so Japanese customers can finally work with testers that are close by.
What are you looking forward to when the lab opens?
I’m looking forward to seeing our team grow once the lab opens—we’ll have the capability to add more testers and test leads to our team. With these new people, we’ll also be able to scale our project capabilities and resources.
The view from the lab is also beautiful—you can see Mount Fuji, which is a major part of Japanese geography and history.
Where do you live, and what do you enjoy most about living there?
I’m currently based in Tokyo, about 45 minutes away from Yokohama. Tokyo is a very big city—I grew up in a small village in France with fewer than 1,000 people, so it’s definitely an adjustment. I love how accessible everything is in Tokyo—you can find anything you’d possibly need. I also used to live in Kyoto, which is a beautiful city on the other side of Japan that has many historic sites. I would recommend visiting there as well.
What do you enjoy doing outside of work?
I love gaming in my free time. I also have a programming background, so I enjoy creating computer programs. I’ve tried creating games myself, and would love to improve my skills in that area.
